Dear Beverly

Just stopped in this morning to say that you are on my mind and in my heart.

          Mi Amor, you remembered me.

Always.

Beverly Ann Kegley Carvajal

Metaphors.
Symbols.

Friends speak in shorthand.
Words mean certain things.

There is no need to explain,
it would be boring to recite the meaning of
this or that word in the context of a friendship.

Symbols too have meaning.

Churchill understood that.
“V” for victory with his two fingers.
The Brits understood the deeper meaning.
Bow fingers for the English longbow.

Metaphors and Symbols.
Powerful.

Hurtful too, when used to inflict pain.

The question that haunts me; bothers me,
is why would someone go to such lengths
to use symbols that you understood;
words that you knew the meaning of
— in context of your life experiences —
to inflict pain; to hurt; to control?

I don’t get it.
Why go out of your way to hurt someone?

Was it a dance?
A metaphor; a symbolic twist of the knife
only known to the dancers?

Have a tune for you today … enjoy.

A winter's day
In a deep and dark
December,
I am alone,
Gazing from my window to the streets below
On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow.
I am a rock,
I am an island.

I've built walls,
A fortress deep and mighty,
That none may penetrate.
I have no need of friendship, friendship causes pain.
It's laughter and it's loving I disdain.
I am a rock,
I am an island.

Don't talk of love,
But I've heard the words before,
It's sleeping in my memory.
I won't disturb the slumber of feelings that have died.
If I never loved I never would have cried.
I am a rock,
I am an island.

I have my books
And my poetry to protect me,
I am shielded in my armor,
Hiding in my room, safe within my womb.
I touch no one and no one touches me.
I am a rock,
I am an island.

And a rock feels no pain,
And an island never cries.

Dear Beverly

Just stopped in to say hello.

          You remembered me.

Always.

Beverly Ann Kegley Carvajal

Cold.  Again cold.
Long day ahead.

Just wanted to take a moment to reflect.

Have a tune for you today.
An oldie … enjoy.

Oh, it's so nice to be with you
I love all the things ya say and do
And it's so nice to hear you say
You're gonna please me in every way
Honey, I got the notion
You're causin' commotion in my soul

Baby, you and me have got somethin' that's real
I know it's gonna last a lifetime
Aww, ya better believe it, girl
At night I call your name
Darkness fills my room, I'm only dreamin'
About the time I'm gonna be with you

Oh, it's so nice to be with you
I love all the things ya say and do
And it's so nice to hear you say
You're gonna please me in every way
Honey, I got the notion
You're causin' commotion in my soul

When I'm feelin' down
You're there to pick me up
And help me to carry on
Aww, little things mean a lot
When you need a shoulder to cry on
I'm there to ease the pain
And chase away the rain
Aww, darlin', I just gotta say

Oh, it's so nice to be with you
I love all the things ya say and do
And it's so nice to hear you say
You're gonna please me in every way

Oh, it's so nice to be with you
I love all the things ya say and do
And it's so nice to hear you say
You're gonna please me

Dear Beverly

Just stopped by to say that you are in my heart.

            Doll, you remembered me.

Always.

Beverly Ann Kegley Carvajal

Dang it's cold.
Makes it all the worst.

Cold ... it's a sad state of mind.
Cold ... it's a lonely state of mind.
Cold without your smile; your humor.

Like you would say, "oh wells."

Have a tune for you today ... enjoy.

Life ain't always beautiful
Sometimes it's just plain hard
Life can knock you down, it can break your heart

Life ain't always beautiful
You think you're on your way
And it's just a dead end road at the end of the day

But the struggles make you stronger
And the changes make you wise
And happiness has its own way of takin' it's sweet time

No, life ain't always beautiful
Tears will fall sometimes
Life ain't always beautiful
But it's a beautiful ride

Life ain't always beautiful
Some days I miss your smile
I get tired of walkin' all these lonely miles

And I wish for just one minute
I could see your pretty face
Guess I can dream, but life don't work that way

But the struggles make you stronger
And the changes make you wise
And happiness has its own way of takin' it's sweet time

No, life ain't always beautiful
But I know I'll be fine
Hey, life ain't always beautiful
But it's a beautiful ride
What a beautiful ride

Dear Beverly

Just stopped in to say hello.

         You remembered me.

Always.

Beverly Ann Kegley Carvajal

Cold this morning ...
Long, dreary stretch of cold nights ahead.

Long for sunny days.
Sunny warm days.
Long for you smile too.

Will have to settle for sunny warm days.

Have a tune for you today.
From one of your favorites … enjoy.

This romeo is bleeding
But you can't see his blood
It's nothing but some feelings
That this old dog kicked up

It's been raining since you left me
Now I'm drowning in the flood
You see I've always been a fighter
But without you I give up

Now I can't sing a love song
Like the way it's meant to be
Well, I guess I'm not that good anymore
But baby, that's just me

And I will love you, baby - Always
And I'll be there forever and a day - Always
I'll be there till the stars don't shine
Till the heavens burst and
The words don't rhyme
And I know when I die, you'll be on my mind
And I'll love you - Always

Now your pictures that you left behind
Are just memories of a different life
Some that made us laugh, some that made us cry
One that made you have to say goodbye
What I'd give to run my fingers through your hair
To touch your lips, to hold you near
When you say your prayers try to understand
I've made mistakes, I'm just a man

When he holds you close, when he pulls you near
When he says the words you've been needing to hear
I'll wish I was him 'cause those words are mine
To say to you till the end of time

Yeah, I will love you baby - Always
And I'll be there forever and a day - Always

If you told me to cry for you
I could
If you told me to die for you
I would
Take a look at my face
There's no price I won't pay
To say these words to you

Well, there ain't no luck
In these loaded dice
But baby if you give me just one more try
We can pack up our old dreams
And our old lives
We'll find a place where the sun still shines

And I will love you, baby - Always
And I'll be there forever and a day - Always
I'll be there till the stars don't shine
Till the heavens burst and
The words don't rhyme
And I know when I die, you'll be on my mind
And I'll love you - Always

Dear Beverly

You are in my heart and on my mind this morning.

            Mi Amor, you remembered me.

Always.

Beverly Ann Kegley Carvajal

Some would say that it is pointless.
Some would question why.

Pointless, no; symbolic, yes.
I made a promise to myself and nothing more.

As long as my heart beats you will not be forgotten.

Tunes, not songs.
Tunes, not music.
Just tunes, that is what you called them.

Each morning your day would begin with
words of encouragement.

Each day would begin with a tune
that you could link to.
A tune that you could listen to.
A tune to enjoy.
A bright spot to begin each day.

It was a simple reminder that
you were not alone.

But that was all taken away.

When the sister of Connor's mother dare
raise questions in a public forum, your Facebook
page was forcibly deleted.

You were systematically isolated.
But you could have all of the alcohol you wanted.
The pills just kept coming.

One day you simply took control.

No one took the time to call.
No one took the time to care.
No one thought that someone cared.

Grief ... and tears ... and a promise.

As long as my heart beats you will not be forgotten.

Have a tune for you today ... enjoy.

Link: Sarah McLachlan: I Will Remember You

I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories

Remember the good times that we had?
I let them slip away from us when things got bad
How clearly I first saw you smilin' in the sun
Wanna feel your warmth upon me, I wanna be the one

I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories

I'm so tired but I can't sleep
Standin' on the edge of something much too deep
It's funny how we feel so much but we cannot say a word
We are screaming inside, but we can't be heard

But I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories

I'm so afraid to love you, but more afraid to loose
Clinging to a past that doesn't let me choose
Once there was a darkness, deep and endless night
You gave me everything you had, oh you gave me light

And I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories

And I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
Weep not for the memories

Dear Beverly

Just stopped by to say hello.

           You remembered me.

Always.

Beverly Ann Kegley Carvajal

I'm back.
Long road trip yesterday.

Had time to think.
Had time to remember.

It's a double-edged sword.
Memories are sweet.
Memories hurt.

Joy and sadness go hand-in-hand.

Have a tune for you today ... love how you called 'em tunes.   Enjoy.

Link: Lady Antebellum: Need You Now

Picture perfect memories scattered all around the floor.
Reaching for the phone 'cause I can't fight it anymore.
And I wonder if I ever cross your mind?
For me it happens all the time.

It's a quarter after one, I'm all alone and I need you now.
Said I wouldn't call but I've lost all control and I need you now.
And I don't know how I can do without.
I just need you now.

Another shot of whiskey, can't stop looking at the door.
Wishing you'd come sweeping in the way you did before.
And I wonder if I ever cross your mind?
For me it happens all the time.

It's a quarter after one, I'm a little drunk and I need you now.
Said I wouldn't call but I've lost all control and I need you now.
And I don't know how I can do without.
I just need you now.

Oh whoa
Yes I'd rather hurt than feel nothing at all.

It's a quarter after one, I'm all alone and I need you now.
And I said I wouldn't call but I'm a little drunk and I need you now.
Well I don't know how I can do without.
I just need you now
I just need you now.
Oh baby I need you now.

Dear Beverly

You are in my heart this morning.

           Doll, you remembered me.

Always.

Beverly Ann Kegley Carvajal

Long day ahead.
Restless night.

Yes, it comes in waves.
The sadness.
The incredible sense of loss.

I try to stay clear of the anger.
It is, I've learned, pointless to hate.

Have a tune for you today ... enjoy.

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh oh.
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh oh.

Give me freedom, give me fire, give me reason, take me higher.
See the champions, take the field now, unify us, make us feel proud.
In the streets our heads are liftin', as we lose our inhibition.

Celebration it's around us, every nations, all around us.
Singin' forever young, singin' songs underneath that sun.
Let's rejoice in the beautiful game.

And together at the end of the day,
WE ALL SAY:
When I get older, I will be stronger.
They'll call me freedom. Just like a wavin' flag.
And then it goes back,
and then it goes back,
and then it goes back,

And then it goes:
When I get older, I will be stronger.
They'll call me freedom. Just like a wavin' flag.
And then it goes back,
and then it goes back,
and then it goes back,

And then it goes:
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh oh.
