Dear Beverly

Just stopped by to say that you are in my heart this Easter morning.

           You remembered me.

Always.

Beverly Ann Kegley Carvajal, Beverly Kegley

Long day ... lots to do.
Baseball season begins tomorrow,
everyone is in first place with high hopes.

Sort of like life ... we begin with high hopes.

Have a tune for you today

"I’ve cussed, I’ve prayed, I’ve said goodbye
Shook my fist and asked God why
These days when I’m missing you this much" ... enjoy.

Link:  Lee Brice: I Drive Your Truck

Eighty-Nine Cents in the ash tray
Half empty bottle of Gatorade rolling in the floorboard
That dirty Braves cap on the dash
Dog tags hangin’ from the rear view
Old Skoal can, and cowboy boots and a Go Army Shirt folded in the back
This thing burns gas like crazy, but that’s alright
People got their ways of coping
Oh, and I’ve got mine

I drive your truck
I roll every window down
And I burn up
Every back road in this town
I find a field, I tear it up
Til all the pain’s a cloud of dust
Yeah, sometimes I drive your truck

I leave that radio playing
That same ole country station where ya left it
Yeah, man I crank it up
And you’d probably punch my arm right now
If you saw this tear rollin’ down on my face
Hey, man I’m tryin’ to be tough
And momma asked me this morning
If I’d been by your grave
But that flag and stone ain’t where I feel you anyway

I drive your truck
I roll every window down
And I burn up
Every back road in this town
I find a field, I tear it up
Til all the pain’s a cloud of dust
Yeah, sometimes I drive your truck

I’ve cussed, I’ve prayed, I’ve said goodbye
Shook my fist and asked God why
These days when I’m missing you this much

I drive your truck
I roll every window down
And I burn up
Every back road in this town
I find a field, I tear it up
Til all the pain’s a cloud of dust
Yeah, sometimes, brother sometimes

I drive your truck
I drive your truck
I hope you don’t mind, I hope you don’t mind
I drive your truck

Freeway series.
Season draws near.
Your boys won last night.

New scoreboard at Dodger Stadium.
I hope you are still keeping score.

Have a tune for you today … enjoy.

Maybe I should take that picture off the dashboard
Before her memory hits the brakes and takes the wheel
Yeah I bet she's still crying on that front porch
Yeah, this time it's gonna take some time to heal

Cause I'm on my way to Tennessee
Singing "Georgia On My Mind"
Chasing what they say's a dream
Thinking maybe it ain't mine
Cause that girl's in every song I sing
She's in every song I write
And that six string ridin' in her seat
Won't keep me warm tonight
God what am I supposed to do?
There's more than miles in my rearview

Well, I'm headed north to what I swore I wanted
And trying not to buy into my doubts
But I just can't seem to keep myself from wondering
Why I'm jealous of all them headlights headed south

Cause I'm on my way to Tennessee
Singing "Georgia On My Mind"
Chasing what they says a dream
Thinking maybe it ain't mine
Cause that girl's in every song I sing
She's in every song I write
And that six string ridin' in her seat
Won't keep me warm tonight
God what am I supposed to do?
There's still more than miles in my rearview

Yeah, more than miles
Yeah, I've been changing lanes without my mirrors
Cause every time I look behind me I see her
I think I just realized how much I need her (damn)

So I'm turning back for Georgia
Stopping short of Tennessee
I can't put my dreams before her
Man, I need her with me
Cause that girl's in every song I sing
She's in every song I write
And that six string ridin' in her seat
Can sleep in the back tonight
Now I know what I'm supposed to do, yeah
There's still more than miles in my rear view

More than miles, yeah
More than miles

Dear Beverly

Just stopped by on this Good Friday to say hello.

          Oh Doll, you remembered me.

Always.

Beverly Ann Kegley Carvajal

You boys start playing baseball on Monday.
Every game played will, in some small way,
remind me of you and how much
you loved your Los Angeles Dodgers.

Have a tune for you today.

“And in the morning you can tell me your dreams
You know I've seen it before
This mist that covers your eyes
You've been looking for something that's not in your life”

And the morning came, and there were no dreams to speak of.
So sad … so true.

… Enjoy.

Come on baby, let's get out of this town
I got a full tank of gas
With the top rolled down
There's a chill in my bones
I don't want to be left alone
So baby you can sleep while I drive

I'll pack my bag and load up my guitar
In my pocket I'll carry my harp
I got some money I saved, enough to get underway
And baby you can sleep while I drive

We'll go through Tucson up to Santa Fe
And Barbara in Nashville says we're welcome to stay
I'll buy you boots down in Texas, a hat from New Orleans
And in the morning you can tell me your dreams
You know I've seen it before
This mist that covers your eyes
You've been looking for something that's not in your life
My intentions are true, won't you take me with you
And baby you can sleep while I drive

Oh is it other arms you want to hold you
The stranger, the lover, you're free
Can't you get that with me
Come on baby let's get out of this town
I've got a full tank of gas
With the top rolled down
If you won't take me with you
I'll go before night is through
And baby you can sleep while I drive

Dear Beverly

Just stopped in to say hello.

         You remembered me.

Always.

Beverly Ann Kegley Carvajal

Up early … long day.
A play day … work will have to wait.

Have a fun tune for you today … enjoy.

Thought you'd change the weather
Start a little storm
Make a little rain
But I'm gonna do one better hide the sun until you pray
I'm a tornado looking for a soul to take

You're gonna see me coming by the selfish things that you did
I'm gonna leave you guessin' how this funnel is gonna hit
I'm a tornado looking for a man to break

Yeah, I'm gonna lift this house, spin it all around
Toss it in the air and put it in the ground
Make sure you're never found

Thought you'd take a swing
Try another girl, try another night,
But it's the pain that brings my force of nature back to life
I'm a tornado more disturbed than an F5

Hey, I'm gonna lift this house, spin it all around
Toss it in the air and put it in the ground
I'm gonna lift this house, spin it all around
Toss it in the air and put it in the ground
Make sure you're never found, oh, yeah

OOOOOOOOOOO
MMMMMMMMMM

I'm gonna lift this house, spin it all around
Toss it in the air and put it in the ground
I'm gonna lift this house, spin it all around
Toss it in the air and put it in the ground
Make sure you're never found

The winds are getting stronger
And the sky is falling through
And you ain't got much longer
'Til the rage rips off the roof
I'm a tornado... and I'm coming after you...

Oooo...
Hmm...
Oooo...

(I'm gonna lift this house, spin it all around
Toss it in the air and put it in the ground)

Dear Beverly

Beverly Ann Kegley Carvajal

Cat sleeping in my lap.

Took a look out the window
and decided against
an early morning romp.

Have a tune for you today
A fun one … catchy … enjoy

Heading down south to the land of the pines
I'm thumbing my way into North Caroline
Staring up the road and pray to God I see headlights
I made it down the coast in seventeen hours
Picking me a bouquet of dogwood flowers
And I'm a-hopin' for Raleigh, I can see my baby tonight

So rock me momma like a wagon wheel
Rock me momma any way you feel
Hey momma rock me
Rock me momma like the wind and the rain
Rock me momma like a south bound train
Hey momma rock me

Running from the cold up in New England
I was born to be a fiddler in an old time string band
My baby plays a guitar, I pick a banjo now
Oh, north country winters keep a-getting me down
I lost my money playing poker so I had to leave town
But I ain't turning back to living that old life no more

So rock me momma like a wagon wheel
Rock me momma any way you feel
Hey momma rock me
Rock me momma like the wind and the rain
Rock me momma like a south bound train
Hey momma rock me

Walkin' to the south out of Roanoke
I caught a trucker out of Philly had a nice long toke
But he's a heading west from the Cumberland gap
To Johnson City, Tennessee
And I gotta get a move on before the sun
I hear my baby calling my name and I know that she's the only one
And if I died in Raleigh at least I will die free

So rock me momma like a wagon wheel
Rock me momma any way you feel
Hey momma rock me
Rock me momma like the wind and the rain
Rock me momma like a south bound train
Hey momma rock me

So rock me momma like a wagon wheel
Rock me momma any way you feel
Hey momma rock me
Rock me momma like the wind and the rain

Overcast; June gloom in March.
Front headed this way.
Maybe rain … maybe not.

Still, better than winter.
It’s all relative, isn’t it?

Life is like that.

The bad becomes not so bad
when the bad gets worse.

Is that what happened last June?
The bad that was tolerable
got so bad that …
well, enough about that.

Have a tune for you today … enjoy.

Looking back on the memory of
the dance we shared 'neath the stars above;
For a moment all the world was right.
How could I have known that you'd ever say goodbye?

And now, I'm glad I didn't know
the way it all would end, the way it all would go.
Our lives are better left to chance;
I could have missed the pain,
but I'd have had to miss the dance.

Holding you I held everything.
For a moment wasn't I the king
If I'd only known how the king would fall,
Hey, who's to say - you know I might have changed it all.

And now, I'm glad I didn't know
the way it all would end, the way it all would go.
Our lives are better left to chance;
I could have missed the pain,
but I'd have had to miss the dance.

Yes my life is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain but I'd have had to miss the dance

Just a promise
Just my promise
Nothing to do with this or that
Just a promise

Nothing to worry about.
No reason to fret.
Just a promise

Have a tune for you today …

For even if the whole world has forgotten
The song remembers when”

Your tunes remember
even if the world has forgotten
Enjoy ...

I was standing at the counter
I was waiting for the change
When I heard that old familiar music start
It was like a lighted match
Had been tossed into my soul
It was like a dam had broken in my heart

After taking every detour
Getting lost and losing track
So that even if I wanted
I could not find my way back
After driving out the memory
Of the way things might have been
After I'd forgotten all about us
The song remembers when

We were rolling through the Rockies
We were up above the clouds
When a station out of Jackson played that song
And it seemed to fit the moment
And the moment seemed to freeze
When we turned the music up and sang along

And there was a God in Heaven
And the world made perfect sense
We were young and were in love
And we were easy to convince
We were headed straight for Eden
It was just around the bend
And though I have forgotten all about it
The song remembers when

I guess something must have happened
And we must have said goodbye
And my heart must have been broken
Though I can't recall just why
The song remembers when

Well, for all the miles between us
And for all the time that's passed
You would think I haven't gotten very far
And I hope my hasty heart
Will forgive me just this once
If I stop to wonder how on Earth you are

But that's just a lot of water
Underneath a bridge I burned
And there's no use in backtracking
Around corners I have turned
Still I guess some things we bury
Are just bound to rise again
For even if the whole world has forgotten
The song remembers when
Yeah, and even if the whole world has forgotten
The song remembers when

Kindness
Are you born with it,
or is it learned from others
as you grow?

Makes you think.

Long day ahead.
Must get to it.

Have a tune to start your day …
A new one … enjoy.

Hey pretty girl, won't you look my way
Love's in the air tonight
You can bet you make this ol' boy's day
Hey pretty girl, won't you look my way

Hey pretty girl, can I have this dance
And the next one after that
Gonna make you mine there's a real good chance
Hey pretty girl, can I have this dance

Hey pretty girl, it feels so right
Just like it's meant to be
All wrapped up in my arms so tight
Hey pretty girl, it feels so right

Life's a long and winding ride
Better have the right one by your side
And happiness don't drag its feet
Time moves faster than you think

Hey pretty girl, wanna take you home
My momma's gonna love you
She'll make me sleep on the couch, I know
Hey pretty girl, wanna take you home

Hey pretty girl, let's build some dreams
And a house on a piece of land
We'll plant some roots and some apple trees
Hey pretty girl, let's build some dreams

Life's a long and winding ride
Better have the right one by your side
Happiness don't drag its feet
And time moves faster than you think

Hey pretty girl, you did so good
Our baby's got your eyes
And a fighter's heart like I knew she would
Hey pretty girl, you did so good

Hey pretty girl, when I see the light
And it's my time to go
I'm gonna thank the Lord for a real good life
A pretty little girl and a beautiful wife

Beverly Ann Kegley Carvajal

Up before dawn.
Busy day.

Just taking a few moments
before work begins to reflect.

Had a wonderful conversation
with Judith last night.

It’s good to talk.

Have a tune for you today … enjoy.

Bet your window's rolled down and your hair's pulled back
And I bet you got no idea you're going way too fast
You're trying not to think about what went wrong
Trying not to stop 'til you get where you goin'
You're trying to stay awake so I bet you turn on the radio
And the song goes

I can't live without you, I can't live without you, baby
I can't live without you, I can't live without you, baby, oh baby

The highway won't hold you tonight
The highway don't know you're alive
The highway don't care if you're all alone
But I do, I do.
The highway won't dry your tears
The highway don't need you here
The highway don't care if you're coming home
But I do, I do.

I bet you got a dead cell phone in your shotgun seat
Yeah, I bet you're bending God's ear talking 'bout me.
You're trying not to let the first tear fall out
Trying not to think about turning around
You're trying not to get lost in the sound but that song is always on
So you sing along

I can't live without you, I can't live without you, baby
I can't live without I can't live without you baby, oh baby

The highway won't hold you tonight
The highway don't know you're alive
The highway don't care if you're all alone
But I do, I do.
The highway won't dry your tears
The highway don't need you here
The highway don't care if you're coming home
But I do, I do.

I can't live without you, I can't live without you, baby
I can't live without I can't live without you, baby, oh baby

The highway don't care
The highway don't care
The highway don't care
But I do, I do.

I can't live without you, I can't live without you, baby
I can't live without I can't live without you, baby, oh baby
(The highway don't care
The highway don't care
The highway don't care
But I do, I do)

I can't live without you, I can't live without you, baby

Whose truth?
A mother's truth?

As we spent the day by
your bedside I got her
version of the truth.

It was from her point of view,
that of a mother; colored; slanted
and seen through a prism
of her own making.

But in the end, the evidence would
mount and mount and it would
become obvious that there was
no reason to doubt her
version of the truth.

Whose truth?
Why yes, the truth
spoken by your mother.

On December 16, 2009 she left us.
On the afternoon of June 4, 2012
you set things in motion.
On June 5, 2012 you left us.

Events connected through time.
With her protection gone,
the second, sadly, was inevitable.

She spoke the truth
and I can see it plainly now.

Have a tune for you today ... enjoy.

Link: Ashley Moore: Used

Used
Like an old piano played for generations
Slowly fading out of tune
Used
Like the soles on the bottom of my favorite pair
Of dancing shoes
I know I'm not some bright and shiny
Polished up
Car that's sparkling new
Right off the salesroom floor

Yeah I've got some dents and bruises
I've been dropped and there's a scar
Where, my heart was broke before
But in the end
I'll worth a whole lot more
Used
Ah ah ah ah
Na na na na

Used
Like a book read so many times
Front to back it starts to split in two
Used
Like a house where a family lived
Until they died and there's a soul in every room
I know I'm not some brand new dress
Hanging there perfectly pressed
That never has been worn

I've got some buttons missing
And there's a couple stains
And places where the fabric has been torn
But in the end
I'll be worth a whole lot more
Used

The "madness" begins today.
Should be fun.

Have a tune for you today.

"Cause when your hourglass runs out of sand
You can't flip over and start again
Take every breathe God gives you for what it's worth"

So true ... enjoy.

 Link:  Kenney Chesney: Don't Blink

I turned on the evening news
Saw a old man being interviewed
Turning a hundred and two today
Asked him what's the secret to life
He looked up from his old pipe
Laughed and said "All I can say is."

Don't blink
Just like that you're six years old and you take a nap and you
Wake up and you're twenty-five and your high school sweetheart becomes your wife
Don't blink
You just might miss your babies growing like mine did
Turning into moms and dads next thing you know your better half
Of fifty years is there in bed
And you're praying God takes you instead
Trust me friend a hundred years goes faster than you think
So don't blink

I was glued to my TV and it looked like he looked at me and said
"Best start putting first things first."
Cause when your hourglass runs out of sand
You can't flip over and start again
Take every breathe God gives you for what it's worth

I've been try'n to slow it down
I've been try'n to take it in
In this here today gone tomorrow world we're livin' in

Now, don't blink

Your memory lives within my heart this morning, the first day of spring.

              Mi Amor, you remembered me.

Always.

Beverly Ann Kegley Carvajal

Spring arrived at 4:02 AM.
It’s about time.

Countdown to baseball.

Have a tune for you today … enjoy.

Here it comes in the morning
I'm just trying to forget
Keep it real, keep it simple
And somehow just get out of bed
And this city is endless
I'm as cold as it's stone
Yeah this city is endless
And I'm, I'm walking alone

Sunlight creeps in between the curtains
Lose the sheets there's no time for sleep
I lie, I pretend ‘til I'm almost certain
It's a beautiful world

I wanna ask for direction
But I don't dare to disturb
I got a thing with affections
Yeah, that's why I'm walking alone

Sunlight creeps in between the curtains
Lose the sheets there's no time for sleep
I lie, I pretend ‘til I'm almost certain
It's a beautiful world

Here it comes in the morning...

Sunlight creeps in between the curtains
Lose the sheets there's no time for sleep
I lie, I pretend ‘til I'm almost certain
It's a beautiful world
(Yeah, it's a beautiful world)
la la la la
I pretend ‘til I'm almost certain
It's a beautiful world

Beverly Ann Kegley Carvajal, Los Angeles Dodgers

Long night last night.
Late night … tired.

I shouldn’t complain,
instead I should celebrate each day.

Have a tune for you today,
it is a request …
You'll know who ... enjoy

Welcome my son,
welcome to the machine.
Where have you been?
It's alright we know where you've been.
You've been in the pipeline, filling in time,
provided with toys
and Scouting for Boys.
You bought a guitar to punish your ma,
And you didn't like school,
and you know you're nobody's fool,
So welcome to the machine.

Welcome my son,
welcome to the machine.
What did you dream?
It's alright we told you what to dream.
You dreamed of a big star,
he played a mean guitar,
He always ate in the Steak Bar.
He loved to drive in his Jaguar.
So welcome to the machine.

Dear Beverly

Just stopped in to say hello.

         Oh Doll, you remembered me.

Always.

Beverly Ann Kegley Carvajal, Hayley Taylor: Felt Like Love

To heal my heart
I made a promise to myself.

As long as my heart beats

you will not be forgotten.

I didn’t know it was goodbye.

I didn’t understand last June
how much pain you were in.

I didn’t fully understand how
you felt that you were so alone
and cutoff from the world.

My heart wept in August
when I understood
the meaning of the words,
“I just wanted to hear
your voice one more time.”

I didn’t know it was goodbye.

How blind was I not to see.

And so, a simple
promise to myself.

As long as my heart beats

you will not be forgotten.

I have a tune for you today!
A discovery …

Don't know why you
can't see the diamonds in the coal”

… enjoy.

Our heads in the clouds,
no clocks to keep time
it's all lingering looks and butterflies
Don't know why you
can't see the diamonds in the coal
Guess we all only know
when we know
but it felt like love
yeah it felt just like love
ooh it felt like love
yeah it felt just like love

take the long way back home
just to keep holding hands
wild hope plants its seeds
that grow in us great plans
Don't know why you
can't see the diamonds in the coal
Guess we all only know
when we know
but it felt like love
yeah it felt just like love
ooh it felt like love
yeah it felt just like love

and everybody says
they know how it feels
but sometimes you can't
stop thinking it's real
cause innocence always
tastes so sweet
and falling's never been this easy
ooh it felt like love
yeah it felt just like love

ooh it felt like love
yeah it felt just like love
oh it felt like love
oh it felt just like love
oh it felt like love
oh it felt just like love

Dear Beverly

Top ‘o the morning to ya … stopped by to hello.

           You remembered me.

Always.

Beverly Ann Kegley Carvajal

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day.

It was bittersweet
spending time with you.

Sort of a one way conversation,
if you know what I mean.

March Madness starts today.

Saint Patrick’s Day and March Madness
are sure signs that your boys in
BLUE will be taking the field soon.

Both hope and sadness in the air.
These are days that you are missing.
These are days of fun and joy.
These are days without you.
These are days of sadness and sorrow.

Have a tune for you today … enjoy.

Imagine a world where no music was playing
then think of a church where nobody's praying
if you've ever looked up at a sky with no blue
then you've seen a picture of me without you

Have you walked in a garden where nothing was growing
or stood by a river where nothing was flowing
if you've seen a red rose unkissed by the dew
then you've seen a picture of me without you

Can you picture Heaven with no angels singing
or a quiet Sunday morning with no church bells ringing
if you've watched as the heart of a child's breaks in two
then you've seen a picture of me without you...
